Earth Trust Exploring

Around the area I live in South Oxfordshire there are many wonderful nature reserves. The organisation which cares for these areas is the Earth Trust.

Before beginning this blog, I planned to go to each of these areas with my family and report back on the lovely walks and adventures we had!

Mowbray Fields

Wittenham Clumps

Thrupp Lake

Wallingford Castle Meadows

And then MS struck.

Since the summer my walking ability has been getting worse so I got in touch with an MS nurse and had some blood tests.

The dreaded spasticity has struck (very heavy feeling legs, difficulty bending knees and ankles).

I’m now taking Baclofen and am stretching as much as I can. I’m optimistically hoping that this relapse will end soon (especially since they have just found a Covid vaccine!!).

No worries though, the Earth Trust report will still happen…just maybe at a slightly slower pace than I had originally planned!

We had already been to one area during the summer – Wittenham Clumps 😊

Wittenham Clumps are a set of two hills in South Oxfordshire and is apparently the most visited outdoors site in the county with 200,000 visitors a year!

The views from on top of the clumps are absolutely wonderful, looking across the fields and river Thames in this area.

The girls loved the climb up to the top of the clumps and once up there they could run around, climb on tree stumps and explore the small wooded area.

I found the walk manageable with a walking stick and the help of the husband. There are a few benches around the site, so resting and enjoying the views is possible.

There is a car park at the bottom of the clumps.

We will certainly revisit the clumps many many times.

The only slight negative to the walk is the cowpats but as long as your child is able to understand just to avoid them it is not a huge issue.
