Hi! It’s been a long time!
Since Christmas I have hardly blogged at all.
My life was taken over by “School Closure 2: This Time We’re Serious”. We were no longer asked to “just do whatever work they can manage” as we were in the first lockdown. Remember then? The sunny days, playing outside, all of us believing that it’ll certainly all be over by September.
September came and the children went back to school. We all chuckled at how relieved we were that THAT madness will never happen again!
Boris even allowed us to get together with our families again at Christmas. He is such a kind, thoughtful leader. What could go wrong eh?!
Well the worst DID happen. A mixture of winter illness, a general relaxation of sticking to social distancing rules and a Christmas full of mixing with those in the most vunerable groups.
Cases and deaths rose to the the highest amounts in the whole pandemic.
This could only inevitably lead to another national lockdown with school closures and this time the government were serious! Schools were informed that all students were to complete at least 5 hours of study a day. Although schools were amazing with the support they provided to enable this learning, the basic logistics of getting pupils to do this home schooling was down to the parents (and lets be honest it was mostly Mums!).
So from the 5th January 2021 we were back at school, with Mummy as the headteacher. There were times of enthusiasm and enjoyment towards home schooling but mainly it envolved a lot of constant reminding the girls about their classes, passive agressive bribary and teaching myself about the things they were learning (who else had no idea what a homophone was?!).
The kids did amazingly with transferring learning and working into the place that usually meant relaxing, playing and letting off steam. I can only imagine how emotionally confusing that was for some children.
Then, this Monday, the schools reopened and the parents of school aged children did rejoyce!!
The other big thing that has happened recently is that I have had my first vaccine! I had the Oxford Astra Zenica vaccine.
I am currently on day four of the after effects and I’ve had a pretty tough time. My body has really fought against the vaccine with tiredness, weakness, aches, headache and MS symptoms turned up to a billion! However today seems to be the turning point and I am feeling much more like my usual self.
I feel very lucky that I’ve had the vaccine and am hugely looking forward to life slowly coming back to normal. This past year has been tough and heartbraking for so many reasons.
I certainly will never again take for granted the life we have.
