Homeschooling – lockdown 2

The first week of homeschooling has happened and I feel like the nervous breakdown is approaching!!

During the last school closure lockdown I just had one child to school. Now, however, I have two!

The youngest is in Reception class so the work is light but the having to concentrate on them both is pretty exhausting!

It’s even more exhausting due to one, possibly both, having autism.

This brings so many challenges and hurdles to get over. I will write another blog about “My Autism Family” later though as it’s a whole other blog!! 😂

Apparently the UK government expect a lot more content and hours of home schooling this time around. So I’m waiting with trepidation to see how the filmed lessons and at least four hours teaching a day (for slightly older primary school children) will go 😬

Other parents advise how you shouldn’t push your child too much and allow them to do as much as they are able to do but

I DON’T WANT TO BE THAT PARENT!!

I want to be the parent who gets out of bed at 6am full of enthusiasm for the teaching day ahead.

To set up the laptops and paperwork before the children have got up.

Most of all though I would like children who want to work! To be honest I don’t know if that is even a thing with Primary school/any children!!

I don’t know if it’s an autistic thing that school = work and home = fun but wow it’s tough!

With the first school closure lockdown we used the BBC site BiteSize. It was a really good learning aid which we got on well with.

This time round we are going with Google Classroom and whatever work the school sets. Wish me luck with the outcome!!
